In order to apply the damage tolerance design philosophy to design marine structures, accurate prediction of fatigue crack growth under service conditions is required. Now, more and more people have realized that only a fatigue life prediction method based on fatigue crack propagation (FCP) theory has the potential to explain various fatigue phenomena observed. This essay offers a thorough analysis of Augusta Read Thomas's second violin concerto, Carillon Sky (2005). The work is compared with her solo violin work Caprice, written at the same time, as well as the similar Berio's work Sequenza VI and Chemins II. The analysis is divided into two sections: form and structure, and harmony and motive, focusing on a series of recurring chords and gestures. The essay concludes with a discussion of interpretative and performance issues, and a discussion of the work's optional cadenza. In this work, we have studied the quadratic cost optimal control problems and their numerical analysis of nonlinear parabolic distributed parameter systems. After established the fundamental existence and uniqueness results, we have developed the nonlinear optimal control theory for the equations having uniform Lipschitz continuous nonlinearity. Then we have applied the theoretical results to practical nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations including reaction-diffusion equations, diffusion Hopfield neural network equations. Furthermore, numerical evidences for these issues have also been solved by using variational method and finite element approach.

Piezoelectric actuators are being used increasingly in various novel applications. One of piezoelectric actuator design goals is to improve its performance for a certain mass of piezoelectric materials. Shape optimization is one important way to improve the performance of a piezo by changing its geometry. However, academic and industrial research of shape optimization is still developing, especially with several objectives considered simultaneously. This book focuses on numerical modeling and multi-objective optimization of the shape of piezoceramics.
